Offline videos from jellyfin not playing

I use jellyfin and my daughter has her own android tablet which is fairly locked down and managed through google family link.

I purchased yatse for a long flight and it worked perfectly, playing her downloaded content on both legs of the journey.

Since then, we havent changed anything about the tablet and she has used it occasionally to watch things. About a week ago she showed me that she couldnt play her favourite videos. After playing around it was apparent that anything that has been made available to play offline will not play regardless of whether the tablet is online or not. The files play natively when they are not downloaded and so there is no transcoding required

I have tried making the files online only and redownloading. Ive tried resetting yatse.

The files download with no errors but playing just results in a spinner when the tablet is online

If the tablet is actually offline then i will get a message saying cant connect.

Ive got logs from the tablet when it is online trying to play a downloaded file but couldnt click through to attach as there is no browser access on the tablet

I have got the log files transfered over to my device so to be clear, im not attaching them from the device that has the issue
debug-20250524_201233.zip (863.4 KB)

There’s no errors in the logs, what player are you using to actually play the media?

The default player on the tablet (ive not selected the mx or vlc options) . Same player works fine for streaming the video and used to work for the downloaded video

Well it was maybe updated, try VLC at least it will provide proper error and logs to see.

Ok. Will give it a go and report back. I suspect its permission related due to it being quite locked down

Vlc has fixed it. The stock video player must have lost permission on downloads and i cant find any way to get it back so its VLC from now on. Thanks for your help
