Dolby Atmos DD+ & Chromecast

Hi,

I usually cast my Jellyfin (PC) media from my smartphone (jellyfin/yatse android apps) to Chromecast Ultra. My setup has always been like this: Chromecast → TV → audio passthrough (toslink) → AVR.

From the jellyfin android app I only get PCM stereo audio. However, from Yatse after enabling the Chromecast audio codecs (now I have both AC3 and E-AC3 enabled but I believe the one that did the trick was the AC3) I am able to get Dolby 5.1 audio.

The problem is that recently I’ve been trying to cast a media in particular that have a Dolby Atmos DD+ / Dolby Digital+ audio and I get no sound. I read somewhere that it could be due to a limitation of the toslink bandwidth, however in other places I’ve read that with compressed formats, even if it is Dolby Atmos DD+, the toslink should be enough.
ARC seems not to be an option, even if my TV is ARC compatible, not sure if it is due to it being quite old (both TV and AVR are from around 2009 I think) that I’ve never been able to successfully configure it that way.

Is there any other config that I should try in Yatse/Jellyfin? I will also try to test with more media files that share the same audio format.

Thanks !

Yatse either transcode or don’t.

If you enable AC3 then the files are no more transcoded (confirmed in the logs) and then it’s either Chromecast or the receiver that does not support the audio format.

There’s not much you can do escape transcoding again.

Thank you, marked your response as the solution.
